My one person show called Out in Front of the Back of Beyond<\/em> at Satchel Projects in 2026 was reviewed by Laurence Hegarty in Two Coats of Paint.<\/p>\n

Daniel Wiener\u2019s soft machines<\/h2>\n

Daniel Wiener\u2019s naming system for his own work is quite precise. On his website, he states of the piece titled Clutching<\/em>: \u201cGenre:\u00a0Sculpture<\/a>\u00a0| Like:\u00a0Bowl<\/a>\u00a0| Placed:\u00a0On A Shelf<\/a>. \u201d Most would recognize that it is, well, a sculpture like a bowl, wherever it is placed. Wiener\u2019s work dallies on a threshold between aesthetic bliss and mundane function. Into his semi functional world Wiener has smuggled images of faces: toothy grins, mouths agape, and wide-awake eyes returning the viewer\u2019s gaze. In his current show at Satchel Projects, \u201cOut in Front of the Back of Beyond,\u201d<\/a> the faces have migrated and are now sculptural objects. The viewer is placed in a direct encounter with a face. For Wiener, this shift is vital and intentional, as \u201cthe space of intimacy\u201d \u2013 \u201ctwo beings face-to-face in close proximity\u201d \u2013 is the subject of his work.<\/p>\n
